Canada’s wonderful and historic victory over Bangladesh in the2003 World Cup was a remarkable accomplishment and the culmination ofwonderful performances in Sri Lanka, against West Indies A and in the RedStripe Bowl. But the World Cup manager, Karam Gopaulsingh, reported thatthe team was held back by “the lack of self-discipline, a professional attitude,commitment to excellence and dedication to the cause”. Gopaulsingh added: “We had the personnel: players, coach, physiotherapist who could haveimpressed the ICC to move us far forward on the road to one-day internationals,but the opportunity was lost at the `altar of self.'”
