Media Release05-Sep-2002Essex County Cricket Club has announced that it will not be renewing thecontract of Mark Ilott.Ilott, 32, made his first class debut for Essex in 1988 and played in 5 Testmatches for England. He has been experiencing difficulties with his fitnessand, although fully recovered, has agreed with the club that it is mutuallybeneficial for him to leave at the end of the season.Chief Executive David East commented: “Mark has been an excellent servantfor the Club, and is currently in his benefit year. It is always sad whenplayers leave us, but we all wish him every success for the future.”Mark Ilott commented: “I am obviously very disappointed to be leaving theclub after so many years, but would like to thank the Club and its membersfor all their support during my career, and in particular during my benefityear. I very much hope to carry on playing should a suitable opportunityarise.”
