Having arrived from Swansea in the summer of 2014, Ben Davies was one of Mauricio Pochettino’s first signings as Tottenham manager – the Argentine of course having been appointed just a few weeks before.
Davies has since proven himself to be a main-stay of the first-team squad for Spurs, often battling with now Newcastle loanee Danny Rose for the right to be the north London side’s first-choice left-back.
As per Transfermarkt, he has made 181 total appearances for the Lilywhites since his move, but injuries have played a major part in his game-time being more limited this season in particular.

An ankle problem has restricted him to making just five appearances under Pochettino’s successor, Jose Mourinho. And whilst he may fancy his chances of reclaiming his spot in the team when he comes back, Spurs’ interest in Rangers left-back Borna Barisic could spell bad news for him.
According to 90min, the Lilywhites will make a move for the Croatia international at the end of the season, and that they have been left impressed by what the 27-year-old has shown – the report further adds that Spurs will face stiff competition for his signature however.
When you look at Barisic’s stats this season, you can clearly see why Mourinho is intent on securing his signature. The left-back has racked up a remarkable 14 assists in 37 games across all competitions this season, including four in the group stages of the Europa League.
To put that into perspective, Davies’ entire Spurs career has seen him register just 17 assists. Barisic is proving himself to be an attacking weapon for Steven Gerrard’s side, and it is no surprise that the Liverpool legend has lauded his player’s consistency levels for being “outstanding”.
Bringing him into the team may leave Davies out in the cold, with Mourinho surely trying to work out ways at how to get his team to be more productive going forward – they have managed just 47 goals in the top-flight (well-short of the current top four).
Davies may have proven himself to be a loyal performer for Spurs, but Barisic’s arrival could spell bad news for his first-team chances in the long-term.
Meanwhile, this Spurs star just offered another reminder of Pochettino’s magic.
